Another blog? Why??
Who knows how many blogs exist out there, but the purpose of making yet another one in this case is to ultimately spread teachings about God and His word. This is not meant to be a fun, cute, lightly written blog about football teams, wine-tasting trips, exercise programs, or anything of that sort. My intention here is to post about debated topics or passages from the Bible and try to help others think about these topics in a way that’s honoring to God. Will I always be correct? Most definitely not. Nevertheless, all one can do is try their best. I will also try to be as succinct as possible. Why explain something in 100 words if I can get the same point across in 10?
Another reason for writing a Christian blog is captured by a phrase penned by Julia Carney. She was a poet in the 1800’s and wrote at one point, “Little drops of water make a mighty ocean”. In my experience, some Christians have taken the attitude of Elijah…”Lord, I’m the only one left!” Some have adopted the attitude of defeatism and pessimism, as if Christianity has never faced any type of societal problem before. I believe the more people support Christianity and voice opinions that concur with God’s word, people will see the worthiness of the Christian cause. So if you happen to come across this blog, take it as an encouragement that there is someone else out there who cares about God’s word and applying it to society 🙂 Hopefully, this blog will serve as yet another tiny drop in an ocean of Christian voices.
As for the writer behind it, my name is Andy Berger. I am a lead pastor at West Oneonta Baptist Church in West Oneonta, NY. I went to Pennsylvania State University for undergrad and then Moody Theological Seminary to get a Master of Divinity. I am also a nurse on the side. Those are the basics about me. Other than that, you will get a good idea of what I think through the blog posts.
